MTS: Smartphone sales growth shrinks to 1% in 2019, flat in 2020

MOSCOW, Mar 4 (PRIME) -- Russia’s smartphone market growth slowed down to 1% in 2019 in natural terms from 3% in 2018 and are likely to remain flat in 2020, the country’s top mobile operator MTS, which also runs a large retail monobrand chain, said in a research on Wednesday.

“In 2019, 30 million smartphones worth 495 billion rubles were sold,” MTS said.

No new devices that ñould give advantages or new user experience appeared on the market in 2019. Åðó üodels released two or three years ago manage a wider range of tasks.

“As a result, the Russian smartphone market has almost stopped growing, and the users continue expanding the period of owning gadgets and their functions via popular and affordable technological accessories, like smartwatches and wireless gear,” the company said.
